Subsequently, he earned a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh in 2006, further enhancing his interdisciplinary expertise. Having been licensed to practice law in Israel since 1973, Jacob Liraz possesses a wealth of legal knowledge and experience spanning several decades.
Mr. Liraz embarked on his professional journey as a legal practitioner at a prominent Haifa law firm, where he spent seven years honing his skills in the realms of commercial and business law, which encompassed diverse areas such as real estate, insurance, and torts. His early professional endeavors provided him with a solid foundation in legal practice.
Notably, Jacob Liraz held the esteemed position of a military judge at the military court of the Northern Command for a commendable period of three years. He furthered his military career by completing the Command and Staff Course (short), culminating in his appointment as the Deputy Chief Judge with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. This role underscored his commitment to the fair and just application of the law within a military context.
In 1983, Jacob Liraz joined the prestigious law firm of Yaakov Salomon and Lipshitz & Co., where he assumed the leadership of the Tel Aviv branch. During his tenure, he effectively represented some of the largest corporations in Israel, demonstrating his prowess in navigating complex legal matters on behalf of prominent clients.
An exceptional juncture in his career occurred with his collaboration with Moshe Sachal, a former partner at Yaakov Salomon and Lipshitz & Co., who ascended to the position of Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. In a demonstration of his expertise and influence, Jacob Liraz joined Minister Sachal as the exclusive legal advisor. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal guidance and strategic counsel to the Ministry. His responsibilities encompassed a spectrum of areas including legal and legislative affairs, economics, and general advisement, particularly with regard to significant matters such as oil and gas reforms, petrochemical industries, electricity, coal, alternative energy, and fuel.
Between 1986 and 1994, Mr. Liraz established his own law firm which focused on business investment law, both domestically and internationally. His purview included civil and commercial litigation, and he notably served as the attorney general for prominent entities such as the Israel National Oil Company Ltd., Naphtha Oil Company Ltd., and "Davar," among others. During this period, he maintained his role as the sole advisor to the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, underlining his enduring commitment to public service.
From 1994 to 2013, Jacob Liraz held the position of senior partner at Balter, Guth, Aloni & Co. During this tenure, he managed complex and substantial litigation cases, including the representation of a group of investors in a Cayman Island hedge fund collapse lawsuit and the representation of entities in class action suits. Furthermore, he expertly facilitated mergers and acquisitions for both local and international companies, even representing foreign investors in their Israeli ventures.
Mr. Liraz's international experience includes a stint at the Goodkind, Labaton, Rudoff & Sucharow law firm in Manhattan, New York, from 1998 to 1999, thus expanding his legal horizons beyond Israeli borders.
Jacob Liraz's profound influence extends beyond his legal career, as he is actively engaged in community service. Since 1994, he has held the esteemed position of Honorary Consul of Sierra Leone in Tel Aviv, dedicating himself to humanitarian efforts, particularly for refugees. Additionally, during 2012 and 2013, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club, demonstrating his commitment to sports and community development.
